Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from others kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began competing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to dedication and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he prefers winning money games on a regular basis.
