Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest bettors around the world. While betting on online poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I think tv can skew our view of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen betting on internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in money rounds?
