Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible game, has increased in acceptance so amazingly.
Omaha/8 begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to each player. A round of betting follows where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants must attempt to make the best high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is the point where many players can get flustered. Contrasted to Hold’em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi low the player has to utilize exactly three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is just how it sounds. It is the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the very same concept in just about all poker games.
A low hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.
Although it seems complicated at first, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the basic subtleties of the game with ease. Seeing as you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are being used at once, Omaha/8 provides an exciting collection of betting choices and owing to the fact that you have several players battling for the high, as well as a few shooting for the low hand. If you love a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha 8 or better.
